Over
the years, the subject of a Point Show or a major
community event, catering for all sections of the community, was often mooted,
but usually cast aside as being an impossible task. Fortunately,
the Point
Community Council
of the late nineties had the foresight to undertake a Community Appraisal, a
survey which embraced most aspects of community life in the present day.
The
seeds which germinated and set the roots of the society
can be attributed to the results of that appraisal. This clearly expressed a
challenging desire; to create a sustainable community event which, coupled with
a sense of belonging to a community entrenched in history, fuelled the energy
that created the Point
Agricultural Society.
In 2002 a small dedicated group of Rudhachs
gathered together and constituted the Society. The
subsequently agonised, persevered, organised, begged, borrowed, encouraged and
most of all succeeded in bringing the community together for the Inaugural
Point Show in August 2003.
Since then, the
show has continued to go from strength to strength and the
Society will
soon be preparing for their fifth show. |
