From the early
age of five sitting on the Portnaguran Post
Office counter singing my first ever Gaelic song
Point has always been special to me.
When Mairi
phoned and asked if I were free I jumped at the
chance. Having opened the Carloway show a couple
of years earlier I now felt I had achieved the
"double" which would have made the Bodach and
Caileach undoubtedly so proud.
On the
Saturday morning the reality of a washout was
becoming inevitable, however as lunchtime
approached things became clearer and come rain
or shine this was in no way going to dampen the
spirits of the committee and the host of
enthusiastic helpers I had met the previous
evening.
Having toured
the Highlands and Islands with shows for many
years the day itself was unquestionably one of
the best. Meeting people that I had not
seen since the days of " Bhan Narrow" and
putting faces to names that had been a big part
of my youth and upbringing.
This along
with seeing "Biodan" in the crowd made it all
worthwhile although he seemed slightly on edge
with the imminent opening of the new Point
football pitch and the colour of the grass.
I'm sure he
was taken slightly aback when he asked "did I do
any Bluegrass"………….."No" was the reply but how
about "An tractar a th agamsa"
Many thanks
for a truly wonderful day and all the best for
this years show.
